A Subcommittee on Science, Technology, Innovation, Space and Geo-Special Technology formed
The government has formed a 'Science, Technology and Innovation and Space and Geo-Special Technology Sub-Committee' to formulate an action plan along with identifying areas for building Smart Bangladesh. The list of the committee constituted by the Cabinet Division convened by Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman was gazetted on Thursday (January 18).
According to the Gazette, the other members of this subcommittee formed on December 10 last year included the Ministry of Science and Technology; Secretaries of Ministry of Power; Posts and Telecommunications Division; Department of Information and Communication Technology; BUET Vice-Chancellor; DGs of National Museum of Science and Technology; Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute; Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheater; Director General of National Institute of Biotechnology and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL).
Moreover, educationist Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal; UGC member professor Dr. Hasina Khan; Dean of the Faculty of Science of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad; Chairman of Bangladesh Engineering Research Council Dr. S. M. Nazrul Islam; Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Md. Shaukat Akbar; Chairman of Bangladesh Satellite Company Dr. Shah Jahan Mahmud; Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO); Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Medical Research Council and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council; President of Bangladesh Science Academy and Project Director of a2i. A Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology will serve as its Member Secretary.
The scope of work of this sub-committee includes identification of areas related to building Smart Bangladesh 2041; Determining the objectives, problems, prospects and actions of the identified areas; Identifying (cross-cutting) issues with other Ministries or Departments, private sector or organizations and educational and research institutions outside of own jurisdiction; Formulation of short, medium and long term action plans for the implementation of Smart Bangladesh 2041; It will monitor the implementation of the formulated action plan and inform the Smart Bangladesh Task Force on the progress of implementation of the action plan on a six-monthly basis.
Before this, the Smart Bangladesh Task Force was formed by convening the Prime Minister in August 2022. However, this task force is likely to be reconstituted in the context of the formation of a new government.
